Berlena's Place Rabbitry
Quality Mini Rex Especially Blue Eyed Whites
There is a story behind this doe's name "Maximus Almost Blue It". She was originally bred by Gina Layton in Arizona out of a doe she got from me "Berlena's Blur". Blur is a black vienna marked doe out of Berlena's Snippet and Folklore & Fables Patsy(the royal couple). Almost's sire is Higher Ground Farm Phineas who Gina purchased from Eric Stewart himself.
Well anyway, back to my story...... Gina invited me to stay at her home one weekend while I was there for a show in Tolleson, AZ. Well the next morning I got up and went to help Gina with feeding her rabbits etc. I was the first one in there and noticed Gina's dog (a Boston Terrier) seemed very interested in something in the rabbitry. I started to walk in and almost stomped on a little baby rabbit that was just born! So I picked it up..tucked it into my bra to get it warmed up(doesn't everyone do that?). When Gina came in I showed her the little baby and she realized she forgot to put some nestboxes in the day before. So we tried to search around and couldn't figure out which doe the baby belonged to. So she popped it into a litter of a foster doe.
So, I went home and a few days later Gina informed me that she figured out the mom was Berlena's Blur! And that the baby was a Blue Eyed White! Gina was going to get out of BEW anyway and she said that baby would be mine after it was weaned since I saved its life.
I told her "you almost blew it!"
And thats how Almost got her name!
